About the Event
On January 6, 2021, too many purported to be shocked as white supremacy paraded its violence at the U.S. Capitol with the goal of instilling terror into anyone that dare stand against it. For Black and Brown communities who have sustained such violence against our minds, bodies, and souls for centuries, this was nothing new. In the face of individual and systemic racial hatred, increasing anxiety, dis-ease, mental health crises, gross inequities, and general overwhelm in our communities is often met with the language of toxic positivity--that is, empty rhetoric of unity, hope, and justice that offer no substance or tangible refuge for the healing of our minds, bodies, souls, and society in times of crisis. Resting on the conviction that social justice must be grounded in personal wellness, "Dr. J" will work with participants to unpack the power and urgency of healing individual and collective racial trauma.
